Introduction
Research is an integral part of higher education learning. It is about producing new knowledge and new insights by setting answerable research questions, collecting data in a systematic way, analysing research questions intelligently, and identifying patterns and establishing associations. It is a prerequisite for life-long learning.
Course Description
The undergraduate research project is a mandatory, faculty project planned to enhance the dental undergraduate curriculum. It is aimed to provide students with an opportunity to undertake an assignment that takes them out from the classroom environment. This course aims to promote development of life-long learners with an interest in a scholarly inquiry; and to provide early exposure to critical appraisal of information through research undertaking.
Course Learning Outcomes
i. Conduct and appraise a systematic review of scientific literature to be used as part of research and evidence- based approach to practice
ii. Use information computer technology (ICT) in literature search, report writing and presentation of research findings
iii. Apply sound principles of basic/clinical sciences research methodology, and provide new insights on various aspects of dentistry and dental care
